If you recall the 70s song The Cisco Kid, you know the lyrics say he "was a friend of mine." It also references a horse "made of steel." Well the equine hero of this story also goes by the name of Cisco. He's no kid, but he—or at the very least, his hooves—just might be strong as steel by now. And he's certainly a very good friend of one grateful lady, Lora Petty.
Lora has arthritis of the back. Though she owns eight other horses, it's Cisco, a Missouri Fox Trotter gelding, who has the magic touch. "He's my physical therapy," says Lora of her four-legged miracle worker, "the only one whose gait loosens my back and lets me be pain-free when I walk."
Every horse has his ups and downs, and Cisco had his share of hoof heartaches: cracking around nail holes that made him prone to throwing shoes and a big hole from a wicked abscess that'd blown out one winter, for starters. Such were the hurdles Lora faced before 2006, when she found BioStride™ Trainers Formula, an intensive hoof support product from Formula 707.
"I fed him BioStride for about six months," she recalls. "His hooves were in the best condition they'd been in the entire time I'd owned him. [From then on] I never lost a shoe or even had the shoes get loose. It was wonderful!"
As time passed, Lora was working a lot of overtime and she pastures during the summer, so Cisco wasn't on a regular dose of BioStride. Still, his feet seemed to maintain a clean bill of health—something he'd never before experienced.

Fast forward to Jan. 2008, when she went out to doctor another horse and discovered Cisco, blood clotted on a hoof with the entire back half missing. Sub-zero temperatures had fortunately stopped the bleeding. Rushing to the vet, Lora was told that if the coffin bone wasn't injured, he'd probably recover, but she shouldn't expect to ride for at least a year, if not longer, as he'd have to grow a whole new hoof.
Sadly, the vet said, the hoof would probably be defective for the rest of the gelding's life. There was no guarantee he'd ever again be sound. The alternative was to put him down.
Says Lora, "When I got home, I thought about how the BioStride helped his hooves the summer before, so I decided to take some to the clinic the next day." She took the BioStride to her vet and asked him to include it with his feed. Her beloved friend and healer would remain there for 34 full days.
Cisco has had one scoop of BioStride every day since. If a horse had a life preserver tossed his way, the supplement would surely be it for this amazing survivor. Even the vet credits the remarkable recovery to the product.
She hadn't expected to be astride Cisco before spring of '09, but here it was just July—six months ahead of schedule—and they were together on a five-day trail riding/camping adventure.
"Take a look at the pictures and see what your wonderful product has done," Lora writes. He's grown, from the inside out, new hoof layers and only has a little more to go before he'll have a completely new hoof. Thanks for giving me my horse back."
